Whoops. Kind of overdid it in the comments section for Thursday’s post (see my long comment near the bottom for an explanation).
Ah, democracy…
Ivy always liked Jackson best in the Hall of Presidents. What a wiseguy.

Over in our fevered world Jesse has a rocking quote from Jackson that Ivy may like …
“… Should I let you [the bankers] go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the grace of the Eternal God, will rout you out.”
Wow. Really puts Obama and BP in perspective, doesn’t it?
Speaking of BP, Peak Oil theorist and profound BP critic Matt Simmons died suddenly yesterday. A few years ago he spoke at Dalhousie and was kind enough to hear me out (for nearly 10 minutes!) on how “Twisted SMILES” might apply to zeolite unit studies and help refinery efficiency. Alas nothing came of that, but Matt was a true gentleman and will be missed. Jesse posted on that too.
And in reply to Ivy’s below, hair is a bit of sensitive subject around here (one spot where you seem to have won the Calnek lottery, but time will tell 😉 )
I don’t think it was overdone at all. This is a topic that people are very passionate about. Someone wrote a comment to you that showed a lack of knowledge in our government, you called attention to it, and people answered. They seemed rational and polite to me.
I, for one, am thrilled at all the things that made you happy in that post. I see no reason to apologize.
Just to set the record straight, Jackson is my favorite in the Hall of Presidents because he is the cutest. Has nothing to do with politics and has everything to do with hair (and the whispering to the president next to him).
Even I think he’s adorable in the Hall of Presidents.
I feel like maybe intolerance against the customs and/or character of a minority stems from a kind of pack-bonding instinct. So perhaps a voluminous response could communicate on a deeper level? “Espousing these beliefs alienates you from the larger more viable group!” A pragmatic truth perhaps, and delivered here where no physical violence may result. I don’t know, maybe!
Oh don’t puss out like that now. she’s wrong.
